IE6 jQuery plugin

Filed under: Humour, JavaScript, Languages, Software — Dan @ 12:25 am

Recently I’ve beginning to wonder why I try to support IE6 anymore.
Vista and Window 7 do not support Multiple IEs and never will.

So I’ve just had to install XP into a virtual machine, just to test with IE6.  Upon launching IE6 for the first time, I was greated with a broken page.  This broken page just happens to be the first page IE7 users see.

Microsoft is no longer maintaing IE6 user’s experience.
IE8 was launch in March 2009, which means that anyone using IE6 is 2 browser generations behind.

They need a kick up the behind.

There is a website called IE6Update that has a information bar telling people to upgrade.
This seems a little too subtle.

My solution is to display an overlay that hides the current website, and telling them they need to upgrade to Firefox.

jQuery.ie6 in IE6

Now I don’t have to test my websites in IE6.

Download jQuery.IE6 Now (109KiB)

The download consists of the javascript plugin, css, html, a picture and jquery.

You don’t really need to use jquery to achieve this, you could just include the html in your site.
The reason I didn’t, was to allow the browser to be able to cache it.

RRRRThats5Rs.com – Make the World a Better Place

Filed under: Games, Humour, Software — Dan @ 8:35 am

I recently stumbled upon RRRRThats5Rs.com

There is a game called "Make the world a Better Place".

The object of this game is to throw a computer away, as far as possible, inspiring others.

As you can see above, the first two throws happen as expected.
However the third throw did not.

Since making the video, the game has reached a score of 2 million.
I think it is safe to say that the game is pretty much end-less.

Their about page explains a lot more about this.

Tesco starts early

Filed under: Games, Humour, Software — Dan @ 2:22 pm

I found myself recently looking for computer games at tesco.com.

Some of the games that I want to get have yet to be released.
I was interested in when they would be released and for how much.

Alone in the Date. Release date 1 Jan 2020

Imagine my surprise when I found out that "Alone in the Dark" was due for release in January 2020.

XBox 360 off for a while

Filed under: Humour, Message — Dan @ 8:09 pm

You see the oddest of things in the real world.

This message was seen on a XBox 360 during the Christmas Sales in Game store.

We are unsure as to the intent of the message.

Is it?

  1. Humour?
  2. Stupidity?
  3. or the Xbox is broken and they have no idea when it will be fixed?

Personally we feel it’s either option 1 or 3.

XBox 360 will not be switched on until 47th Jan
